How do you convince a ten-year-old to blow himself up, taking a dozen or more other lives with him? The first step is to find a family that lives in poverty. Everything that follows, rests on this first requirement. How do you trap people in slavery? The first step is to find a family that lives in poverty.
The list of evils perpetrated in this world which rest on that first step is a long one. Lifting people out of poverty does more than just put food on their tables and clothes on their backs, it helps to protect them from exploitation in many forms. Exploitation of people often goes hand in hand with activities that are hugely detrimental to us all.
Every person in the world who can spare a few euro or dollars a month can make that money have a far-reaching impact on the wellbeing of our world. Give to charities, but help keep them responsible. Look into their background, do what you can to make sure your money goes to organisations which use it well.

I so agree. My husband comes from middle class Mexico, which is impoverished compared to where we now live (middle class Midwestern USA) but not impoverished at all if compared with Haiti and many African countries.
The point is that when people live in poverty it becomes easier and easier to justify any means possible to seek out a means of survival at any cost, including exploiting friends and family.
It’s Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
I do agree- what if each of us in first world countries made it our mission to find just one person/family o help out of poverty, what would happen to our world?
